Festival Format

The Spoonful is an action-packed weekend so you may want to pace yourself. We have a lot in store for you including inspiring classes, fun competitions, great live music, whisky tasting, and the return of the Spoonful Mega Games.

The weekend is in your hands to do as little or as much as you want. This includes the workshop class schedule, which is Choose Your Own Adventure. This means you can select the class that interests you most in the moment (with the help of the descriptions provided in the Guide).

If you are signed up as a Switch Dancer you can choose to either lead or follow on a per class basis (as instructed by your teachers). As a switch dancer, your role is to help create a good balance of leaders and followers in each class.

Every class has a level (1, 2 or 3 Spoon difficulty rating) so make sure you choose a class that is appropriate to your experience & skill level so that you (and everyone else) can get the most out of it!

Group Bookings

Have you got a group coming together from your scene? Contact us by 28th November to organise a group booking so we can find a way to get you all to the party!

If you book workshop passes for a group of 8 or more dancers from your scene with a balance of follows/leads/switches by 28th November, we guarantee your whole group will get a spot. Everyone in the group needs to book on the website by the 10th December and make their payment within 1 week unless otherwise agreed. Everyone in the group can choose the tiered price that works for them. The person who arranges the group booking gets 20% discount for their trouble! Email bookings@thespoonful.co.uk and give us the list of names of people in your group

Tiered Pricing

The Spoonful has a tiered pricing system to make the event as accessible as possible. We anticipate most people will go for the Regular tickets, and those who can afford to may chip in a little extra using Patron tickets to cover our concessions (available for those on low incomes, students, and pensioners).

If our concession price is outside your budget, contact us directly info@thespoonful.co.uk as we have a small number of scholarship passes available.

We are also offering parent passes again this year so parents/carers can share pass so they can still attend (see full rules here)

  • Full festival pass (Regular) – £180.00
  • Full festival pass (Patron) – £197.00
  • Full festival pass (Concession) – £145.00
  • Parent/Carer Passes – £98.50
  • Social Pass (Parties only) – £80.00

Scholarship Fund

Speaking of which, we are bringing back our Scholarship Fund this year that the community can contribute to so that more dancers who otherwise couldn’t afford the event, get to attend. If we get more contributions that are needed for scholarships, any excess funds will go to the Scottish charity Indepen-dance, supporting disabled and non-disabled people to enjoy, express, and fulfill their potential through dance (www.indepen-dance.org.uk). If you would like to contribute you can add a contribution in when you register.

If you would like to apply for a scholarship pass please email us at info@thespoonful.co.uk and let us know why you are applying and how you would like to apply what your learn at spoonful in the future.

Your Visit

Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and is known for its rich history, stunning architecture, and cultural attractions. There is so much to see and do from visiting Edinburgh Castle, exploring the Royal Mile, walking through the picturesque Old Town and New Town, and taking in the city’s stunning views from Arthur’s Seat – if you can fit it in between all the dancing!

Accommodation and Hosting

Edinburgh flats are small so people have limited space! Unfortunately, this means we have very limited hosting spaces and we want to allocate them to the folks that need them most – please consider this when requesting hosting.

We recommend booking your accommodation as soon as possible after you get your ticket confirmation email. There are now fewer airbnbs available because of new government regulations. You might want to stay on to enjoy the city but remember to book your accommodation early.

Safer Spaces Policy

The spoonful gals want this to be a fantastic weekend for everyone involved. Check out how you can be a great Spoonfuller with our safer space policy/code of conduct.

Health Policy

It is easy for colds and flus to pass around a dance scene, so it’s important to be vigilant – especially at large dance events. We’re asking that people only attend the event if they don’t have any flu like symptoms that they could pass on to others. We’ll provide hand sanitiser throughout the event, and dancers are, of course, welcome to wear masks.

About

The Spoonful gals are striving to make this the friendliest, most awesome event we can.  We’ve taken our many years of blues experience and our favourite things from the hundreds of events we’ve been to and packed all that goodness plus a whole lotta love into a four-day festival that celebrates everything that makes blues dancing so special.

The Spoonful is all about traditional blues music, excellent classes from the most fun and talented teachers, competitions so welcoming that everybody can take part, and bringing the blues community together for one helluva party in our home of Edinburgh, Scotland. We can’t wait to see you on the dancefloor!
